Considering both are incredibly dangerous opponents and anything but households names, it's the kind of high risk and low reward prophecy that most elite fighters would avoid considering. And an interesting way to try and shake up the recent status quo of Alvarez opponents who enter with humble hope and exit with a one-sided defeat. He’s already fought twice this year, however, Alvarez eyes his third bout in 2021. According to Chris Mannix, Alveraz plans to take on another opponent in the ring in November. Numerous attempts to stage the fight in 2021 were stymied by the ongoing restrictions in Japan, before the bout was finally set for Dec. 29. Golovkin was in camp in South Florida when the omicron variant outbreak led to Japan's banishment of foreign visitors, and the fight was postponed once again. Golovkin is the frontrunner, but Alvarez’s options are as plentiful as his overflowing success. It is said that the biggest winners in sports are those who don’t accept defeat.
As we close in on fight night, let's take a look at the biggest storylines surrounding the Mexican icon's return. Caleb Plant will enter the biggest fight of his career against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on November 6th. The two were recently involved in an altercation at a press conference in Los Angeles. Seeing Alvarez become this dangerous of a fighter -- one who can outbox you just as easily as finishing you off with one punch -- is a testament to his work ethic and hunger. He continues to be one of the most active boxers in the world, as it feels like Canelo Alvarez fights someone every six months. Alvarez has already fought twice this year - and three times in six months - keeping him among boxing's most active top fighters. A big part of that is the prolific schedule Alvarez keeps as the rare elite fighter focused on maximizing the window of his physical prime by staying active at level most stars in this sport never see. Usman (19-1) is the UFC welterweight champion (170 lbs.), as well as the top-rated pound-for-pound fighter in all of MMA. Any astute analysis of this match-up had to conclude it was less a champion vs champion unification fight, and more a routine outing and a nice payday for Canelo and little else.
Unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) looks to become the first undisputed champion in the division's history when he takes on IBF champion Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) in the main event of a Showtime Boxing PPV form the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas (9 p.m. That would mean a meeting with either WBO champion Saunders or American fighter Caleb Plant, who owns the IBF strap. Alvarez has been a top fighter in boxing for years. Assuming he wins, Alvarez vs. Alvarez was so determined to win a title in a third division that he arranged to move up from middleweight to fight Fielding, who held the WBA “regular” super middleweight title at the time. Defend the belts, move up a division or maybe even fight in the United Kingdom? We won't know until fight night, however, whether it helps Plant's chances as a heavy underdog by getting Alvarez off of his game. Golovkin was himself victorious against Kamil Szeremeta on Friday night, stopping the Pole in the seventh round to defend his IBF middleweight title, and said he wanted a trilogy fight against Alvarez should he beat Smith.
Alvarez knows that Golovkin is a close second and may desire an easier route, but it would net the most money. Alvarez had a simple explanation for his ability to dominate Smith, a previously undefeated champion, and emerge unscathed against an opponent that physically towered over him. Boxing’s pound-for-pound king secured a destructive finish to become the undisputed super-middleweight world champion, though it took time for him to break his previously unbeaten opponent down. Plant's unwillingness to back down also helped the extracurriculars between them go viral, adding an element of bad blood to the promotion. Even Plant's most recent outing, a shutout decision across the board over 12 rounds against faded former champion Caleb Truax, left more questions than answers as Plant dominated yet did so without much flair or inspiration. The sentimental message reflected Plant's affection towards his mother. Some companies cut emissions to appeal to those that prefer greener business partners. Hearn also has a business relationship with Golovkin, and Golovkin is a DAZN fighter with ties to Matchroom. Looking at Charlo and Golovkin, no one can really tell if the former can beat Canelo but as for “GGG,” things could be unpredictable given the world has witnessed how evenly matched the pair was everytime they go after each other inside the ring.
