He spoke about their relationship and the importance of being a caretaker in a recent Top Rank YouTube series titled “Being Me: Shakur Stevenson.” In those weeks after Leilani’s birth, Stevenson said he was afraid to miss her early moments, afraid to become an “unfamiliar face.” So he regularly jumped on FaceTime between sparring sessions with Caleb Plant and welterweight champion Terence Crawford. Negotiations between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Caleb Plant seemed dead for a moment. Then, once he fractured Saunders' orbital bone to collect the WBO title, Alvarez called Plant out as the missing piece to the puzzle. Prior to even defeating Billy Joe Saunders via ninth-round TKO in May, Alvarez had laid out his blueprint to become boxing's first undisputed super middleweight champion. Plant is now looking to make a return to the ring later this year for his first bout since the loss. It’s unclear why it bothered Plant that Benavidez would be looking to schedule a fight before his match against Lemieux (43-4, 36 KOs). It looks weak on Plant’s part to decline the fight with Benavidez after talking trash on social media, making it look like he was interested. The current IBF middleweight champion gave ‘Canelo’ two of his toughest nights in 2017 and 2018, with the Mexican having to walk through some brutal shots to clinch a draw and a win from their wars. Claressa Shields fought only once in 2021 (along with two MMA fights), but when she did step into the squared circle, she made history, headlining an all-female pay-per-view where she beat Marie-Eve Dicaire to unify the junior middleweight division and become the first fighter to be undisputed champion in two weight classes in the four-belt era, man or woman.
